Coulter's 1896 name is considered an isonym of Daul's name, as the name E. sileri appeared in the literature as early as 1884 and in cultivation shortly thereafter, being mentioned by Siler himself in February of 1884 as having been applied by Engelmann to a collection of his (Siler's) from Utah, from where Daul's plant is said to have originated
