Note:
this study examined crossing barriers between taxa known to be resistant to early leaf spot belonging to section
Erectoides
and non-resistant species of section
Arachis
;
A. paraguariensis
was represented by two non-USDA accessions, one of which (K11462, is however at NPGS as PI 331188) belongs to
A. paraguariensis
subsp.
paraguariensis
and another (8973) belongs to subsp.
capibarensis
; all crosses involving these plants did not produce viable hybrids; the accession K11462 (PI 331188) belonging to this subspecies was crossed with
A. duranensis
and
A. batizocoi
representing the A and B genome respectively, and also with
A. hypogaea
; the results of crosses with
A. duranensis
showed production of pistils with a hollow ovule without embryo and embryo sac, while crosses with
A. batizocoi
the pistil had a hollow ovule filled with fluid and with or without embryo, and in crosses with
A. hypogaea
the pistil had ovules with overgrown nucellar tissue that restricted embryo development
